Mormon Confusion

Mitt Romney has caused quite a bit of a stir about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Deep-rooted hatred, prejudice, and ignorance have surfaced among Evangelicals and even non-Christian people. Of course there are countless people in both camps who do not hold these bitter feelings, and I am really grateful for them. However, it is the former group that I can simply not understand. How do they miss that we are Christians?
Many of these people very mistakenly think we worship Joseph Smith, when the church clearly Joseph Smith is only a prophet, not a deity. He is just like Moses or Abraham, who was not worshipped, but was called of God to preach and prophecy of Jesus Christ. Christ has always established His church through prophets, and we believe it was THROUGH Joseph Smith that Christ established His church. The church was not established by Joseph Smith, but by Jesus the Christ, the Savior of the World.
Many people are thrown off by the Book of Mormon. Not only does The LDS church read and believe in The Holy Bible, but we also believe in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It was a book written by ancient prophets, just like the Old Testament was. We believe the book was written by prophets of God, to bring readers closer to Jesus Christ. Its teachings compliment The Holy Bible, not draw away from them. From reading the Book of Mormon, I have personally felt closer to my Heavenly Father and my Savior.
The purpose of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to bring people unto Christ.
It makes me sad that this basic concept eludes so many people. Is it because they are blinded by prejudice? I will probably never know why. I just hope at least those close to me know what I believe in.
