My little brother, Jason, just e-mailed my family from the Dominican Republic. Every description of the Dominican Republic sounds opposite of everything I’ve ever known. I have been out of the United States before, but not to a 3rd world country. He says piles of trash line the streets everywhere you go. Houses and businesses are primarily made of sheet metal or trash. Jason’s teacher has a mother who does not see her children, and his father left when he was very young. That family situation is completely normal in the DR, instead of an outlying situation.
I don’t know why I was born in the United States, and I don’t know why I was born into such a good family, but his e-mail made me grateful that I was. I mean, my biggest worry right now is that I don’t have a Smartphone, and I want one. It’s incredible how pathetic and petty I can really be. And the thing is…even after that gratitude wake-up call, I still am upset I don’t have a Smartphone yet. Tsk tsk to myself.
On a less “Christina is stupid” note, Seth and I are going on a date tonight. We are going to see The Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I’ve heard it’s not exactly the best movie ever made, but considering the originals, what can you expect? The only reason we are going is because of Seth’s man crush on James Franco, and I like bad movies.
As for my woman crush, Lady Gaga has a new video out. I am at work so I haven’t seen it yet, but I am posting it anyways. With Lady Gaga, it has to be good.
